Bet on Yourself is not a dare to start a business. It is also not a mandate to “find your passion.” It’s about believing you can pursue the things you want to do, create or be in this lifetime — whatever those things are.

So, how do you start believing you can?

You start by keeping your word to yourself. It can start with the tiniest thing, like promising yourself you’ll drink a glass of water before your coffee tomorrow morning, or that you’ll drop that thing off at the post office.

When you keep your word to yourself, you become the kind of person you yourself can rely on. Do what you promised, no matter how small, and you'll notice yourself making bigger, more meaningful promises over time.

When you keep your word to yourself, you become more likely to take risks toward your goals and dreams, even when that seems intimidating and others are discouraging or doubtful.

Bets, by definition, involve uncertain outcomes — so a lifetime of betting on yourself will bring both successes and setbacks. But when you keep your word to yourself, setbacks don’t break you, they build you. Betting on yourself becomes less about the outcome of any single bet and more about your willingness to make the next one. You begin to just try stuff, because you know that whatever happens, you’re going to keep moving. As my dear friend Erica’s grandma says: “You cannot lose — you can only win or learn.”

That’s why I believe that the most resilient people (and dare I say, the happiest?) aren’t the ones who are always successful. And they’re not the ones who always satisfy the expectations of others. They’re the ones who feel the greatest sense of freedom and self-worth, because they make honest efforts to do things that matter to them. They honor the inner voice that tells them - however quietly - that they can. They make bet after bet, not because they’re proving anything to others, or because they have to “win,” but because they understand that showing up is proof enough. They realize that there is actually something worse than failure: having to be honest with themselves that they never even showed up.

That’s what it means to Bet on Yourself. Every bet you make is an act of self love and a declaration that you are worthy of creating the life you desire. It doesn’t have to be starting a business — it might be moving to a new city, quitting a harmful habit, ending a toxic relationship or traveling solo — but if the bet you’re making right now has to do with starting or expanding a business, I’m here to help you do that.

Don’t wait for a more certain outcome. Don’t wait for someone else to tell you it’s a good idea or that you’re good enough to do it. Don’t wait for permission to take the first step, or the next one. And don’t ignore your inner voice saying just maybe, I can. Your life is happening right now. So do the thing.

Bet on Yourself.
